Safe + Sound Week—an annual campaign conducted by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and other safety organizations—will take place from Aug. 10-16.
Each year, this event aims to recognize the successes of workplace safety and health programs across the country and provide additional resources to help organizations kick-start or improve upon their occupational safety and health initiatives.

The Purpose of Safe + Sound Week
Safe + Sound Week is an annual, seven-day initiative created by OSHA to help raise awareness of the importance and effectiveness of workplace safety and health programs. After all, such programs can provide organizations of all sizes and sectors with a wide range of tangible benefits, including:
- Reduced employee injuries and illnesses
- Boosted compliance with workplace safety and health regulations
- Lowered workers’ compensation costs
- Improved productivity and staff morale
During this week-long campaign, OSHA encourages organizations to evaluate their workplace safety and health programs for the following core elements:
- Management leadership—This means that there is a commitment from your organization’s leaders to promote and continuously improve upon workplace safety and health initiatives.
- Employee participation—This means that your organization values and utilizes employees’ collective experiences, knowledge and insight in order to determine the most effective workplace safety and health solutions.
- A systematic approach—This means that your organization has implemented a proactive rather than reactive process to identify and control workplace hazards, thus allowing you to stay on top of emerging safety and health risks and mitigate them before they lead to costly incidents.
How Your Organization Can Participate
As Safe + Sound Week approaches, your organization can participate in the annual campaign by taking the following three steps:
- Sign up. Let OSHA know you plan to participate in this year’s campaign by registering here.
- Find activities and events. Once your organization has registered for the campaign, be sure to search for activities and events to promote within your workplace and community.
- Celebrate your participation. When the campaign ends and your organization has completed all activities and events, you can recognize your workplace’s participation with a certificate.
